At the Barbican Centre, “Encounters: Giacometti” is a year-long series pairing Alberto Giacometti’s historic sculptures with contemporary artists. One of the most significant European sculptors of the 20th century, Giacometti is celebrated for his distinctive, elongated figures that redefined the human form in the postwar era.

The first presentation, on view through August 10, brings Giacometti’s work into dialogue with Huma Bhabha’s hybrid, otherworldly sculptures—forms that resonate with his explorations of the body, memory, and mortality. The series continues with Mona Hatoum in September and Lynda Benglis in February 2026.
